My brother has a long haired, beautiful cat that gets an annual shaving. She is a HUGE black beauty and the matts just get terrible! He takes her once a year to a groomer and they take everything except the paws and head-hair. She looks funny for awhile, but is much more comfortable without having the matted hair pulling every time she takes a step!

My Smokey is also affected by Feline Lower Urinary Tract disease so I can understand the frustrations you've been through. Smokey has had several episodes within the past 3 years. Each time, he was lucky enough to be quickly "unblocked" with only a two night stay at the vets with the catheter and IV meds. So far, he's been about 9 months with no recurrence. I have changed the litter from the clumping type to a natural pine litter and all of my cats love it, plus it has a nice smell!! I have also switched his diet to the Urinary Tract Health Formula and have TRIED to get him to lose weight. A vets assistant told me that she personally has only seen this disease in cats who are overweight!....and ALL my cats are somewhat PLUMP!!
Enjoy Cheese! I totally understand the 'character' that he must be since his TV character was one of my daughters favorites! :)

Hi Cheese and family,

I read your funny poem about Cheese on WRAL and had to come pay your Web site a visit.

These days, I've got a pup named Grunt, aka G-Unit, aka GG...wait, I'd better stop there. That dog has about 50 nicknames. Anyway, I wrote a poem about him that is also posted on WRAL. The first line in the poem reads "At first, you were a replacement for a love that died". The love that I referenced in that poem was my fat cat named Axe. And since you guys were asking for stories, I thought back to the oddest escapade that my cat engaged in. So, here we go.....

Once upon a time, I lived in an old farm house with my cat, Axe. One night, a friend of mine decided to spend the night with us. The next morning around 6am, I woke up very thirsty. I went to the fridge to get something to quench my thirst and then went back to bed. Around 10am, I woke to the sounds of my friend screaming in the kitchen. I drug myself out of bed, went in the kitchen to see what all the fuss was about and looked around for the source of my friends stress. The only thing that I saw was my cat sitting on the floor by the kitchen sink.

When my friend calmed down enough, she told me that she went to open the fridge to get something to drink and she was confronted by something furry sitting on the top shelf of the refrigerator.

Apparently, my 24lb kitty crawled in the fridge when I opened it at 6am and decided to take a nap on the shelf. Good thing she had lots of fur like Cheese.

That cat provided me with many years of enjoyment and entertainment. Someday, I may come back and tell you what she used to do to the neighborhood dogs. I miss her dearly for she passed in 2004 at the age of 18.

Anyway, I hope Cheese and the rest of the gang are doing well.

Good night,
Kelli
P.S. I too can be found in bluepages ;)

I actually got to your website via your WRAL post. Hilarious! I sent it to my boyfriend and mother as well! I love your blog. I went through something similar in 2006 when my Lhasa Apso, Pixel O'Poodle suddenly lost the use of his back legs. The surgery (which had a 75% chance of working) was $2200!! Luckily, I was able to secure the funds for the surgery which saved Monseiur O'Poodle. He is now a very happy puppy who can still run and chase his favorite toy, a very holey, very purple Teletubbie. :)

Hi... I heard about Cheese's need for an operashun from an email from a cat-loving friend of mine. My kitties, Jewel & Lilly, are aged 2 and 1, respectively, and I just lost Nikki, my 20 1/2 year old baby last year to kidney failure. Having been through way too many vet dramas to even begin to count with Nikki (as well as my 6 ferrets who have also all passed), I was very touched to read Cheese's story. A lot of people do not understand spending chunks of money on "pets". They just don't get that they are not just "pets"; they are furchildren.

Best of luck w/Cheese! My friend & I both bought tshirts, and I bought a sticker. I'm in Raleigh so you might see me. :)
